Zim elections are going to be a watershed moment! PRIME
Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Welshman Ncube’s MDC formations have teamed-up
with three other opposition parties to agree a common strategy after last
week’s Constitutional Court ruling ordering President Mugabe to hold elections
before the end of next month.Tsvangirai, Edwin Mushoriwa who stood in for
Professor Ncube, Mavambo Kusile Dawn leader Dr Simba Makoni, Zapu leader Dumiso
Dabengwa and Zanu Ndonga’s Reketai Semwayo met in Harare on Wednesday to map
out recommendations to take to this week’s SADC extra ordinary meeting in
Maputo, Mozambique.Said the MDC-T leader after the meeting: “We noted that the
court action ironically supposedly informed by the desire to safe guard the
rights of the individual applicant, has resulted in the infringement of the
rights of millions of Zimbabweans, in particular the right of eligible voters
to have adequate time to register to vote and elect a government of their choice
in a free and fair environment”.
The
leaders mooted a loose coalition for the general elections with Mavambo leader
Simba Makoni saying: “We and the organizations that we lead are committed to
working together both among ourselves and other likeminded in order to improve
the conditions of life of Zimbabweans.“We have cooperated on this one matter
today because we have judged it important that we should work together .When
such other matters present themselves we will not hesitate to work together
again.”
