BREAKING ZIM NEWS!!

MDC-T election chief arrested over stray ballot paper

POLICE in Harare have arrested MDC-T deputy national chairman and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s campaign manager, Morgan Komichi, over a stray ballot paper the deputy transport minister says he picked from a dust bin last Tuesday at a Harare hotel where the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is operating from. MDC-T national organizing secretary Nelson Chamisa told a party press briefing that Komichi was picked up from his house by detectives Sunday morning and was being held at Harare central police.

“Early this morning around 6 am, our deputy national chairman Honourable Komichi who is the deputy minister of transport was picked up at his home by the police and is actually being held at Harare central police station as we are speaking,” Chamisa said.

“We have instructed the lawyer from the Zimbabwe lawyers for human rights who has told us that the police are insisting that they want to know the whistle blower. “What is interesting is that there is no denial of the fact that indeed it’s an authentic ballot paper and indeed that the ballot paper was found in the dust bin but of course they want to see the source of that and the whistle blower.”

Komichi says his party received the ballot paper cast in his party’s favour from an MDC-T sympathizer who picked it from a dust bin at the Harare International Conference Centre where ZEC was sorting out ballot papers cast by police officers during the chaotic special voting exercise which disenfranchised over 26,000 police officers. The MDC-T has expressed fears a lot more ballot papers cast in the party’s favour are being plucked out of the lot by a ZEC secretariat whose ranks are allegedly massed with agents from the security services. ZEC has since denied being responsible for any leaks and has handed the matter to police saying they were having “severe reservations” over Komichi’s account of the story. Although confirming the particular ballot was cast in Harare’s Mount Pleasant Hall, ZEC has taken Komichi to task as to why he chose to hand over the stray ballot paper a day later and why he did not surrender it still in its sealed state. The MDC-T insists ZEC should explain how a ballot paper can go astray when the organisation claims it is in control of the controversial electoral process. “For us this is a manifestation of the indication again of the old story of harassment, and of course trying to victimise the incoming government and the incoming ruling party,” Chamisa said.

“We view this as an attempt to cover up for the deficits of ZEC, it’s also an attempt to try and quarantine the obvious sentiment in the country, the sentiment for change, the sentiment for a new Zimbabwe. “They know that the people are buoyant, the people are expecting, so they want to find some kind of diversionary element through these arrests so that we don’t focus on the building of the momentum for the cross over to a Zimbabwe. “We believe that ZEC and not Komichi have a lot of questions to ask. If there is any investigation, the theatre of investigations is supposed to be ZEC, is supposed to be people who had the custody of these ballot papers.

“For us the developments we have witnessed demonstrate a dent on the credibility of this election, its demo a perforation of the integrity of ZEC, it demonstrates the complicity of Zanu PF in these antics and tactics to try and undermine the will of the people.”

Up until Sunday morning, the MDC-T says it had not been given a copy of the final voters roll, who was printing ballot papers and where was this taking place. But the party insists its huge support base throughout the country will on Wednesday overwhelm the rigging attempts by the enemy. Meanwhile, police have reversed the ban MDC-T star rally set for the open space near Rotten Row area. Police had banned Tsvangirai’s star rally, dubbed the Cross Over rally, saying they did not have enough personnel to cover the rally after the majority of its staff had already been dispatched to secure election material in the provinces.

TSVANGIRAI WILL BE THE PANACEA!!

TSVANGIRAI TO CORRECT ALL OF MUGABE`S MADNESS
On the question of discrimination in Zimbabwe, where white Zimbabweans are now reduced to a second-class citizen, just because of that, Zimbabwe will never be the same again. Until the general assumption, which holds one race superior, and another inferior, is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned in Harare, Zimbabwe will be unable to regain its former glory. That until there are no longer first-class and second-class citizens in Zimbabwe, and only when the Black Zimbabweans are able to forgive, trust and embrace his white brother or sister, Zimbabwe will know no peace or prosperity. Until the colour of a man’s skin is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes or when peace and democracy has been forcibly extracted from  Mugabe’s dictatorial grip, Zimbabwe will know no peace! Only until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to colour in Zimbabwe, for otherwise as a nation we shall fail; and a failed state we shall remain.
That until that day, the dream of lasting peace and international participation, equal opportunity to make a mark in life and the rule of morality remains but a fleeting illusion, only to be pursued only but never attained; And until the ignoble and unhappy ZANU PF that hold our MDC  brothers in Zimbabwe in subhuman bondage have been toppled and destroyed; Until bigotry and prejudice and Mugabe’s malicious and inhuman self-interest have been replaced by understanding and tolerance and good-governance in Zimbabwe, the country shall never return to its glory days.

So Zimbabweans, when you stand before the Ballot Box, choose the future, choose a better life, Choose jobs, choose better education, choose better Health Care; Choose a better life of paece and prosperity. Liberate yourself from torture, abductions, imprisonment because you have another political view. CHOOSE MORGAN TSVANGIRAI, he is going to win. Here in Denmark we know that, the report that was giving victory to Mugabe was simply coming from an organization funded by ZANU PF itself, to come up with such a self-indulgent statement. I have already told my friends that after the election, I will be coming HOME for Victory is ours!
Only and only until, all Zimbabweans stand and speak as free beings, equal in the eyes of all men, as they are in the eyes of Heaven; Until that day, the African continent will know no peace. We Zimbabweans led by our PM, will fight the tyranny!  we know that we shall win, as we are confident in the victory of good over evil.

Mugabe represents darkness: Tsvangirai

BULAWAYO — Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday said next week’s elections were a do or die poll where people would choose between “darkness and prosperity”. The elections will be held on July 31. Addressing several thousands of party supporters in White City Stadium in Bulawayo, Tsvangirai urged people to vote for MDC-T which he described as the party for the future. The MDC-T leader said Zanu PF was clueless on how to end deep-seated suffering faced by Zimbabweans.  It is estimated that over 85% of the country’s population is living in abject poverty. “What can they [Zanu PF] do in the next five years that they failed to in the last 33 years?,” Tsvangirai told thousands of cheering party supporters.  “Zanu PF is clueless and voting Zanu PF will be retrogressive. The July 31 election is a choice between darkness and prosperity for generations and generations to come.” He added: “President [Robert] Mugabe should be grateful to the Sadc who rescued him after losing the 2008 election.”

Tsvangirai said future generations will remember Mugabe and Zanu PF for destroying the country’s economy. He said the MDC-T will be known for saving the country from total collapse. “Mugabe’s legacy is not about the role that he played during the liberation struggle; his legacy will be his record in government since 1980. He will be remembered for causing the suffering of Zimbabweans,” said Tsvangirai. “The MDC-T entered into a unity government in 2008 to rescue Zimbabweans and save the country.”
The Prime Minister promised to re-industrialise Bulawayo and develop the whole of Matabeleland region that has faced years of neglect and underdevelopment. Thousands of companies have closed shop in Bulawayo in the past decade.  “The MDC-T has a plan to rescue Zimbabwe from a quagmire of poverty, quagmire of corruption, quagmire of impunity and quagmire of lack of accountability. At least 10% of the national budget will be set aside for the development of Matabeleland region,” said the MDC-T leader.  He promised to make Bulawayo “a free economic zone” that would attract investment and lead to the re-opening of companies and industries.
“Industrialisation cannot take place when there is no efficient railway system. The MDC-T will rehabilitate the railway system as part of the industrialisation policy,” he said. Tsvangirai indicated that the MDC-T would ensure that victims of Gukurahundi were compensated “because the scars will remain with us forever”.  An estimated 20 000 people from Midlands and Matabeleland regions were killed by North-Korean trained Fifth Brigade during the Gukurahundi era in the 1980s.Earlier on, Elizabeth Macheka, the premiers’ wife called on the people to shun political violence and urged Tsvangirai not to take for granted the support that he is receiving from Zimbabweans.

ZANU PF HAS FUNDS FOR ELECTIONS, WHERE DID IT COME FROM?

The drama surrounding funding for next week’s election continued Wednesday with Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa insisting that there was enough money for a credible election. Chinamasa told state media that the government had secured funding for next Wednesday’s poll, contrary to Finance Minister Tendai Biti’s statements that more than $80 million was still needed for a credible process. Biti has repeatedly said the government is broke and has no money and called for political will and cooperation from both President Robert Mugabe and Chinamasa to mobilise resources from the country’s diamonds to help fund the elections. “We don’t have money for these elections, and everyone knows it. It’s a horror movie except that you are not watching the movie, you are part of it,” Biti told SW Radio Africa earlier this month.

Biti further stated that his efforts at securing funding from the international community were being undermined by Chinamasa and ZANU PF who were on a warpath with all potential donors, including SADC. But Chinamasa told the state-run Herald newspaper that money was available, and that Biti was simply playing politics: “Where we are right now money has been found to run the elections,” he said. “The elections will be held on the 31st of July 2013 without fail. There is no problem about funding and thanks to ZANU PF which has been able to maintain an independent line to maintain the sovereign status of our country.”

In a tacit admission that he was indeed sabotaging Biti’s fundraising efforts, Chinamasa told the Herald that last week he shot down the finance minister’s efforts to source funding from the Electoral Institute of Southern Africa (EISA). According to the report, Minister Biti approached Chinamasa last week seeking his support to write a joint letter to elections and governance body EISA, seeking election funding. But that request was declined, with Chinamasa saying ZANU PF will not allow foreigners to fund critical internal processes as this will be tantamount to surrendering the country’s sovereignty.

“As you know EISA is not the source of the money but it is merely the face of the countries that imposed sanctions on us.  “So clearly I rejected it with the contempt it deserves and I did not understand why at the eleventh hour he (Minister Biti) would make such a request especially given the fact that we know how donor money is raised and disbursed,” he said.

An earlier funding appeal to the United Nations Development Programme was aborted after Chinamasa went behind Biti’s back and told the world body that Zimbabwe will not accept assistance that came with conditions, such as meeting civil society organisations.  Chinamasa would not say where the funds for the poll had come from, but his party, which has access to the country’s diamond revenue, is also believed to have received substantial assistance from the dictatorial governments of Equatorial New Guinea, China, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Finance Minister Biti could not comment on Chinamasa’s claims that funds had been found as he was addressing a rally when contacted. Meanwhile, there is still no word from the government on whether polling day will be declared a public holiday, making it difficult for businesses to plan for the day. A Public Service Commission official told SW Radio Africa that was yet to be made, but added that there will be an announcement on the issue “soon enough”.

TALE OF A DICTATOR

IMPATIENT with the political blundering of the Movement for Democratic Change led by Morgan Tsvangirai, a brave Catholic archbishop Pius Ncube promised to put on his “best robe” and “march with Zimbabweans against Mugabe’s blazing guns.” Not only that, but the fearless bishop also disclosed that he was “praying for Mugabe’s death”. Understanding that Ncube, a man equipped with a will of steel, meant business and could have confronted Mugabe’s regime in a suicidal but effective march, Mugabe sent the Central Intelligence Organization to record the archbishop’s bedroom activities. The revelations were explosive and damning. The archbishop, who is sworn to celibacy, was caught on camera performing felatio on women and the wild pornography was broadcast on national television. Humiliated and disgraced, the brave bishop failed to surmount the bad publicity and was effectively silenced. It is believed that he is now living a life of prayers. Before Ncube, some Zimbabweans in Zanu PF, fed up with Mugabe’s genocidal and disastrous rule, proposed that an intelligent statesman, the theologian and scholar Canaan Banana must be brought forward to replace Mugabe. Banana, a combative theologian who once proposed “to rewrite the bible”, was an imposing challenger for Mugabe who was battling dwindling popularity. A CIO agent Jefta Dube came up and accused Banana of sodomising him. The theologian was humiliated, tried, jailed and finished. The same fate awaited Zanu Ndonga leader Ndabaningi Sithole who was tried and convicted of allegedly trying to assassinate Mugabe in 1997. He died three years later a broken man.

The spooky way in which Mugabe treated Pius Ncube, Canaan Banana and Ndabaningi Sithole is cinematic of how he handles political challengers that he fears and cannot fault in any other ways besides exposing and criminalizing their lower sides. So far, by ordinary appearance, Mugabe’s hold on political power in Zimbabwe looks like the firm grip of an octopus. With Morgan Tsvangirai boycotting here and scoring political own-goals there, while appearing rudderless on any clear political way forward, Mugabe has so far appeared a skilled political macavity who is slippery like a fish in water. Besides the understandable excitement and optimism encouraged by the rise of Welshman Ncube, a decorated legal mind and political strategist to the leadership of MDC and the increasing prominence of Dumiso Dabengwa, a seasoned warrior who has summered and wintered in the struggle, most Zimbabweans are, like Pius Ncube, “praying for Mugabe’s death.” Unlike the tearful and somber South Africans who called prayer meetings, lit candles and held night vigils upon hearing that Nelson Mandela had been taken ill, most Zimbabweans prepared to party, and “prayed” for the worst when rumors circulated that Mugabe’s life was in danger in Malaysia. It is a widely-held belief among disillusioned and tired Zimbabweans that Mugabe’s death will bring Zimbabwe closer to democracy, peace and orderly governance.

I write in this article to argue that Mugabe, as a personification of the historical, political, legal and economic crisis in Zimbabwe must be solved alive and solved so totally that even his ghost need not be feared. I also write to observe that there are many political and historical landmines that lie buried around a possible Mugabe death at this moment. Besides acting and appearing strong, Mugabe is ailing physically and a weakling politically who is hostage to his securocrats and economic hangers-on in Zanu PF who are using his name and symbolism to hold on to the benefits of economic and political power that come with it. A Socratic observation of the political and historical circumstances that surround Mugabe’s hostage status indicates a strong possibility that upon his death, an extremist Mugabeist political cult might arise and in his name torment Zimbabwe more than Mugabe ever did in his lifetime. Minus the fact that Mugabe’s death is likely to unite the cracking Zanu PF, his replacement is likely to outdo him in Mugebeism to prove that he or she can fit into his big genocidal boots. Mugabe’s death in office undefeated and unprosecuted for his crimes will give the many genocidal offenders in Zanu PF a legal argument that they conducted genocide under legal instructions of the late Commander in Chief.

Besides that, the removal by death of Mugabe from office as things stand cannot in any way translate to victory or political power for the opposition in Zimbabwe, his death can only perpetuate rather than weaken the wicked Zanu PF genocidal agenda. The many Zanu PF hardliners who continue to show fanatical and near cultic support for Mugabe are not Zimbabweans who love and honour “a dear leader.” It is a collection of fearful beneficiaries of Mugabe’s violence, corruption, patronage and pillage who stand to lose their freedom, wealth and even lives in the case of his departure. These are Mugabe’s zealots who have raped, murdered, robbed and stolen in the name of Mugabeism and are most likely to be thrown into extremism upon Mugabe’s death and run down Zimbabwe in a bloody civil war if not managed strategically by the political opposition.

Contrary to their pretensions and posturing, these zealots are not courageous but dead afraid. They include some of Mugabe’s top ministers and service chiefs in the military and intelligence echelons. They have access to arms and other state resources which make them a formidable, though not indefatigable force. If handled with adequate political masonry, they can prove to be a small political quantity whose fears and weaknesses can be exploited to assure victory. That Zanu PF has feuding factions cannot be doubted. Mugabe has remained as the leader by playing them against each other and ensuring that they all report to him. It is the political spinelessness and ineptitude of Morgan Tsvangirai that he has totally failed to attract any of these factions to his side and permanently crack and finish Zanu PF.

Observations of cultic behaviors and tendencies suggest that Mugabe’s death might actually unite these factions who might then rally behind his appointed successor, and in his name sentence Zimbabwe to turmoil. Whoever will replace Mugabe is most likely going to desperately try to prove his worthiness to fit into Mugabe’s “strongman” political template by exceeding Mugabe in violence, cruelty and genocidal inclinations. If the political opposition in Zimbabwe in that case does not employ political craft and gamesmanship, Zimbabwe might be taken back politically by many years. It is a well understood Zanu PF plan that Mugabe should not suffer the indignity of being replaced alive and being out of office and powerless. This is mainly to allow him to cling to the immunity from prosecution for crimes against humanity and escape possible harassment by political opponents. Mugabe’s death at the moment would be a natural and somewhat dignified escape from justice to the comfort of the grave. Those securocrats that Mugabe used to commit genocide will then remain with the argument that they were sent to slaughter civilians by a head of state, which is a lousy legal argument but a sound political excuse. Those opposition politicians who have a genuine interest in solving the excesses of Mugabeism in Zimbabwe should look at confronting him in his lifetime, and not wait for death that might strengthen rather than weaken him. It appears clearly from the evidence of previous elections that electoral defeat alone is not enough to remove Mugabe from office as he is most likely to ignore the results and stay on. Even his death at this point in time cannot dethrone Mugabeism, it can only hide Mugabe from prosecution; give his securocrats legal leverage while the genocidal system persists in power.

Mugabe’s only survival tactic in politics is violence and the tried and tested manipulation of the fear of death that politicians like Tsvangirai suffer from, often leading to boycotts when the country needs real leadership. The solution to this will be found by politicians who will mobilize the many Zimbabweans into self defense mode against the few youth militias, soldiers, police and war veterans who are instructed to intimidate the people. As soon as these hired forces are overwhelmed by the many Zimbabweans who are prepared to die for freedom, precedence has it that the armed forces are known to turn around and join the people. This takes reckless and suicidal leaders who understand that under the shadow of death is where freedom normally hides. Mugabe will be removed by politicians who will surmount the fear of death and breathe courage to the population. Leaders, who will, with their trusted people power and large numbers, demolish Mugabe’s thin fortresses of violence and extract freedom and justice from the sinking regime. In his lifetime, Mugabe must see the colour of defeat, taste the bitter cup of justice and smell the freedom of his victims.

The removal of Mugabe from office will not be a beauty pageant or a picnic but a wrestling match with the gods that only those leaders with the jihadist ingredient and suicidal element need to attend. Too much love for life or too much fear of death are qualities that are not needed in the political theatre that will uproot the titanic tyranny in Harare. Praying and wishing for Mugabe’s death is not enough, not even voting in huge numbers will help, what is needed is the conquest of the fear of death and then Mugabe will be Tunisiad and Egypted from State House. Paying Mugabe in his own currency by standing up pound-for-pound to his violence is a political choice that Zimbabweans should be seriously thinking of, or otherwise stop wasting time in preparing for elections whose results Mugabe will ignore.

ZIMBABWE TOWARDS NEW ELECTIONS: Baba Jukwa says!

ZIMBABWE TOWARDS NEW ELECTIONS: Baba Jukwa says!: BREAKING news, confirmed from our chief informer at KG6----The evil people are planning to use unmarked vehicles to transport ballot paper...

Robert Mugabe plotted Jacob Zuma assassination, document claims

Zimbabwe's political rivals clash over secret paper that alleges president planned to hire Lebanese murder squad. Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe's party dismissed the Jacob Zuma assassination plot claims as hogwash.  Zimbabwe's political rivals have clashed over an apparently secret document said to be from intelligence sources that alleges an outlandish plot by President Robert Mugabe to hire a Lebanese murder squad to assassinate his South African counterpart, Jacob Zuma, and a top diplomat.

The typed two-page report – persuasively detailed but at times written in excitable language strewn with grammatical and spelling errors – has been dismissed by Mugabe's Zanu-PF party as "hogwash" and a "typical setup". The rival Movement for Democratic Change said the assassination threats should be taken seriously. They come amid souring relations between neighbours Zimbabwe and South Africa. Last week Mugabe branded Zuma's chief mediator, Lindiwe Zulu, "some stupid, idiotic woman" and a "little street woman" after her failed attempt to force a postponement of elections.

The purportedly leaked document, dated 2 July and of unknown authorship, contains a paragraph headed: "Lebonese assasins" (sic). It states: "On Monday this week Mugabe hired six Lebanese nationals to try and assassinate Lindiwe Zulu, who is Zuma's advisor. The six met clandestinely with Mugabe yesterday to be briefed by him on the details of their mission … The six were told they must not concentrate on Zulu only, but should also pay attention to Zuma himself, and if they get a chance to do so they must assassinate him as well – but everything must appear as an accident."

It adds: "Mugabe promised the six Lebonese [sic] an undisclosed fortune in cash if they succeed in getting rid of the two who [sic] South Africa senior officials who are giving him a lot of trouble. Names of the six could not be established, but they entered into the country via Zambia in the last few days, where they had previously held a close meeting with [president] Michael Sata before travelling into Zimbabwe."

The document also claims that Mugabe summoned and castigated security officers over a leak to the MDC leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, regarding the involvement of an Israeli company in managing the country's electoral role. Mugabe ordered that "the culprits who leaked the information are made to suffer and die a painful death", it says. Tsvangirai has spoken publicly about his concern over the role of the Israeli company Nikuv. The Guardian has seen a copy of the two-page document but has not been able to verify it as being genuine. The possibility that it is a hoax designed to embarrass the opposition cannot be ruled out. Rugare Gumbo, spokesman for Zanu-PF, insisted: "To be frank with you, it's all rubbish and hogwash to think a head of state like president Mugabe would set up something like that. We have a disagreement with Lindiwe Zulu but it would not go to that extent."

Asked about the alleged threat to Zuma, he replied: "You should not take it seriously. It's a typical setup in Zimbabwe to try and cause some confusion before the election because we are going ahead with our election according to our laws whether they like it or not."

But this is not the first time allegations have surfaced of Zimbabwean government agents carrying out clandestine operations in South Africa. Nor are rumours of assassinations so unusual: South Africa's Mail & Guardian newspaper recently compiled a list of nine Zimbabwean politicians who have died in mysterious car crashes, including the one last month involving Edward Chindori-Chininga, the outspoken chairperson of a parliamentary committee that had just released a highly critical report on the diamond industry. Fierce factional infighting within Zanu-PF and the security sector has resulted in a number of damaging intelligence leaks, notably on the Facebook page of a mole known as Baba Jukwa. Douglas Mwonzora, the MDC's spokesperson, said of the document: "We have had sight of the intelligence information but we are unable to confirm its authenticity. For the MDC, the international community must take these assassination allegations seriously."

But Roy Bennett, the MDC treasurer-general, in exile, was more certain. "We know the report to be credible; it comes from reliable and trustworthy sources within the heart of the CIO [Central Intelligence Organisation]," he said. "It is a stark reminder of the full horrific extent that Robert Mugabe is prepared to go in order to hang on to power and avenge his critics." The MDC and civil society groups in Zimbabwe have applauded Zuma for taking a tougher stand against Mugabe than the previous South African president, Thabo Mbeki.
